About This Performance

Having formed three years ago, the Aizuri Quartet has already won multiple prizes and international competitions. Making their PCMS debut, this fab foursome of recent Juilliard and Curtis graduates will be joined by Ignat Solzhenitsyn, a pianist whose annual appearances with PCMS are always highlights of each season. Solzhenitsyn describes the Shostakovich Piano Quintet (which concludes our 30th Anniversary Season) as “a very unusual work, ambiguous and mystical. Many have found hidden references, but it’s still pure music that speaks for itself, and demonstrates how intimate and personal chamber music is.”

Drozdov: Piano Quintet in A Minor, Op. 11 [Philadelphia Premiere]
Haydn: Quartet in B Minor, Op. 33, No. 1
Shostakovich: Piano Quintet in G Minor, Op. 57
